The Laboratory of the electronic structure and quantum-chemical modeling was established in March 2004 on the basis of the Laboratory of vibrational spectroscopy and quantum chemistry. The last was separated from the Joint laboratory of matter's structure in July 1991 which in turns appeared in June 1981, and merged the staff of the Group of matter's structure of the Institute of Chemistry, Far Eastern Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences (FEB RAS) with the Department of Molecular Physics of the Far Eastern State University (now- Far Eastern Federal University).

Since 2006 the head of the laboratory is Professor Alexander Yu. Ustinov.

 Main scientific directions:

Experimental and theoretical investigation of:

• the composition and electronic structure of chemical compounds and materials;

• the nature of chemical bonds in them in order to find patterns that reflect the correlation between composition - structure - properties;

Scientific explanation of the of synthesis pathway of compounds and materials with desired properties.

Methods of investigation:

Vibrational spectroscopy (IR, Raman), electronic spectroscopy (XPS, UFES, AES), quantum chemistry.
